Trump’s Policies and the Ukraine Crisis: An Analysis of Diplomatic, Economic, and Tariff Changes
[1] Trump-Zelenskyy Summit and Diplomatic Blunders
President Zelenskyy’s remarks and attire in front of Trump have been pointed out as actions deviating from diplomatic etiquette.
During the meeting with the U.S. government delegation on February 15, he spoke positively about the mineral agreement but later contradicted himself by denying it.
During the summit at the White House on February 28, Trump directly conveyed a diplomatic message to Zelenskyy, criticizing his rashness.
As a result, the United States completely suspended military aid in just three days, severely impacting Ukraine’s ability to maintain its combat power.
We analyze the ‘Trump-style’ diplomacy of the United States, highlighting the problems caused by Zelenskyy’s actions in terms of diplomacy and military support.
[2] Shifts in U.S. Domestic Economic and Military Policies and the Use of Tariffs
The Trump administration is re-evaluating military support due to concerns about domestic trauma and increased national debt resulting from overseas deployments and war support.
It is implementing a strategy to revitalize American manufacturing and create jobs by imposing high taxes on foreign products through tariff policies.
Tariffs serve not only as a means of securing tax revenue but also as a diplomatic and military pressure card.
To restore the domestic economy and realize American First principles, Trump intends to use tariffs to induce foreign companies to reshore to the United States.
This policy is a strategy that prioritizes U.S. national interests in economic, diplomatic, and military aspects.
[3] Economic Burden of the Ukraine War and Geopolitical Changes
Ukraine faces an imminent crisis of rapidly losing its ability to wage war due to the suspension of military aid and denial of the mineral agreement.
Despite significant investment in war costs and casualties, the failure to significantly raise its international standing has amplified distrust and confusion within Ukraine.
Trump’s policy includes the intention to make European and NATO countries take the lead in responding to the Ukraine issue, rather than excessively relying on the United States.
It shows that the changes in diplomatic and economic strategies indicate that the Ukraine-Russia war is not just a regional conflict but is intertwined with changes in U.S. foreign policy.
[4] Reorganization of International Diplomacy and Competitive Structure between the U.S., China, and Russia
Trump seeks to reduce the U.S. economic burden by suspending support for the Ukraine war and adopts a strategy of targeting China as a major competitor.
Unlike the diplomatic strategy for the collapse of the former Soviet Union, it now prioritizes American First principles and economic interests and focuses on redefining relationships with allies.
European countries are also reducing their dependence on the United States and promoting the expansion of their own defense spending and the development of the defense industry, thus changing their diplomatic and military strategies.
Trump’s tariff policies and other diplomatic remarks can be interpreted as the beginning of changes in the international order, strengthening the competitiveness of the U.S. economy while using them as a means of diplomatic pressure.
[5] The Core of Trump’s Strategy: Coexistence of Exaggeration and Reality
Trump repeatedly uses the method of ‘exaggeration full of truth’ as his political DNA to achieve desired results.
Unlike actual figures, he instills a strong image in the public and supporters through exaggerated statements, and based on this, promotes American First policies and economic revitalization.
This strategy aims for multifaceted effects such as securing domestic tax revenue, revitalizing manufacturing, and using diplomatic and military pressure, ultimately contributing to strengthening the international standing of the United States.

At the same time, Trump is seen promoting economic revitalization and American First strategies, including tariff policies, and utilizing diplomatic and military pressure tactics.
These changes lead to the economic burden of the Ukraine war, the reorganization of international diplomacy, and the competitive structure with China and Russia, significantly impacting the overall global economy and international order.
