Lucid Air Joins California Highway Patrol Testing
Lucid Motors announced that its Air sedan is being tested by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as part of an ongoing effort by law enforcement to add electric vehicles (EVs) to their fleets. The modified Air shown in photos from CHP tests emphasizes its range, spacious interior, and large cargo capacity. Although it's not yet officially used by CHP, the Grand Touring version of the Lucid Air has already joined Dubai's police fleet.
Similarly, Tesla vehicles, such as the Model S Plaid and Cybertruck, have also been outfitted for police use, aiming to save costs on maintenance and fuel. Departments that have transitioned to EVs, including Tesla models, cite significant savings for taxpayers – approximately $4,000 per vehicle in equipment costs alone.
As law enforcement around the world looks to cut costs and reduce environmental impact, the use of EVs like the Lucid Air and Tesla models is gaining traction.
